Treasure Island (Data East) - colors wrong?

Something that has bothered me for quite sometime are the colors in Data East's Treasure Island. Is this garish color scheme really the way it looked?:
The caves and the background are red instead of black as you'd expect. Now I've never played the original so I'm not 100% certain if this is wrong, however it does look how you would think it should in the flyer: http://flyers.arcade-museum.com/?page=flyer&db=videodb&id=3866&image=1
Also, here's another image from gamesdatabase.org that appears to be more correct than the current mame version:
Did anyone here ever play the original and remember what it looked like?

Ahhh, I see. I guess the cassette version really did look that way.
I searched around some more since I saw your post, and it looks like the gamesdatabase.org image is from the dedicated cabinet version which is still in "preliminary" status in regards to mame. I'll have to keep an eye out on the status of that one from time to time.
