It's running a patched version of the original game code on the Z80 and translating the video hardware etc. and emulating any missing extras (the shifter hardware)
it also doesn't run on stock hardware, you need modified hardware that can map ram at 0
so.. part of me doesn't really think it counts, it's hardly emulation, just a port that fails to work on the hardware you could buy at the time.

ZX Spectrum +2A/+2B/+3 are stock models.

fair enough, I guess I misunderstood the system requirement, but it is unlikely it could have been released like that as most people simply expected either 16k/48k/128k compatibility, not specific models.
either way, it's still no more an emulator than the people running hacked Taito Type X games on a PC where the coinage stuff is 'emulated'
it's a port of the original code, making use of the rom data.
it's neat (and really, CPU power permitting, how ports should have been done, with as much of the original code as possible) but it's no emulator.

yeah.
on the other note, i was able to run both "emulators" under MAME (ZX Spectrum +3 - specpls3). they work just fine.
