M.2 SSD are freaking awesome!
My Asus motherboard has a pair of SFF-8643 ports and only intel makes an SSD drive that connects to them and of course the price is joke.
Enter this product;

I want this! but for some reason the company that makes it is ignoring me. Probably because I'm not going to buy bulk. Anyhow, any suggestions on where else I can find this device? Any forum members in Taiwan? In the meantime I'll just keep pestering them.

Sff-8643 ports are m.2 ssd connections The SFF-8643 ports are suppose to connect to an SSD with the SFF-8639 connector Which is rather ugly IMHO. Only the intel 750 uses the 8639 connection, probably because everyone loves the new NVMe form factor. Performance from the intel 750 drive is very good, but not as good as NVMe. The cable you suggested would work but it would be the equivalent of attaching a USB2 device to a USB3 port. And there are already plenty of Sata ports on the motherboard.
Yeah, its taken me awhile to catch up on all of this new tech.

Because SATA itself is increasingly the bottleneck for I/O as flash gets faster and things like command queueing come into play even on desktops. M.2 gives you 4 lanes of PCI Express, which is quite a bit more bandwidth.
That said, connecting one to an SFF-8643 SAS port probably negates a lot of that advantage.
