I don't think PeerBlock ever did much anyways other than give you a false sense of security.

I've downloaded hundreds of movies and the only time I got a copyright notice in the mail is from a time I forgot to run it.

and thought you had to go Pro to get some of that, though they and everyone else has been saying get a VPN or anonymity, which makes me think, 'Um, do I want to be funneled through some, perhaps, far off server?

I also used utorrent until pleasuredome discovered all the issues with it and said that people should use qBittorrent instead.

I still use qBittorent for pleasuredome, but for everything else, I use Tribler.

If I was transferring my own sensitive personal info via bittorrent, I'd use something else, but for downloading, I think Tribler is the best option if you don't want to (or can't) use a VPN.

Tribler basically anonymizes things by hopping through multiple servers. As long as you don't check the box to become an end node, it's going to be pretty hard for anyone to link back to you.

It also has an internal search engine that can search for things within the Tribler client network (peer-to-peer) so that you don't need to frequent torrent sites like Pirate Bay or whatever the kids are using these days.

Charter contact me many times about the downloading issue as breaking the law or some bull crap when I use the uTorrent. I just delete their emails. Only happen when I downloading movies. Doesn't happen all the time.

Even my cousin get emails. He uses his phone to download. lol

I think kickass torrents has been the kiddie go-to, and has been for some of mine, the other being YIFI. I mainly get movies, and then maybe once a month, average.

Checking out Tribler now. Huge program. I haven't used it yet. Some peculiarities I'm waiting to hear back on.

As long as you don't make yourself an end node, there's no way they can link it to your IP address.

Was it a notice for something you actually downloaded?

I got a notice about a year ago from my provider and they turned off my Internet. When I called to find out what happened, they claimed that I downloaded an episode of Game of Thrones... in Spanish. I don't watch Game of Thrones, and I don't speak Spanish. They eventually admitted that it was possible that someone was spoofing my IP address and they turned my internet back on.

Is it possible that the content providers have set up a "honey pot" Pirate Bay site and are just recording your IP address when you click on the torrent link?

I have no idea. The notice didn't mention what the downloaded item was.

Hmmm....Vierd.

I gave up on Tribler. No answers to my forum questions (at least one of them is about a possible bug), and shit was slower than dogshit in Alaska. Fortunately I don't do a lot of traffic.
