I'm not convinced Nintendo sent a takedown to archive.org, I'd find it much more plausible that the ones that were there were removed because the scans were fucking garbage.
The background images looked like they'd been saved at 0% JPEG quality, and the text had been OCR'd really, really badly. Like, 30-point text saying "MMC3" turning into "MMC1" after OCR, things like that. I tweeted at Jason asking about the quality, and he said they were planning on redoing them in better quality, and he agreed that the current quality was pretty bad.
It could have been Nintendo, but on the other hand it could have been pulling the old, shitty ones if there's about to be a set of better scans.
