Duplicated snap folder bug ?
#357073 - 07/29/16 05:09 AM

hi,
Jaylinx brought this to my attention. If you have a sub-folder named snap inside the snap folder, MAME UI will load images. Using MAME v0.176.

snap\snap\88games.png
snap\88games.png (shouldn't this be the only valid path ?)

note that you only have snap defined in snapshot_directory entry (mame.ini).

Is this an intended behavior or it's a bug ?

On a side note, if you rename that sub-folder to anything else it doesn't work:
snap\snapieshotty\88games.png (MAME UI can't find the image)

I tested with other image categories and they don't do this. All these images do not load
cabinets\cabinets\88games.png
flyers\flyers\88games.png
title\title\88games.png

but they load fine if you use:

cabinets\88games.png
flyers\88games.png
title\88games.png

I hope this is a bug because having a snap sub-folder inside the snap folder to place your image files is kinda counter-productive and confusing... since MAME doesn't do recursive folder scanning.

Thanks for listening.

It's on purpose.

To make it clear, let's take different names :

Let's say you put your snaps in

./pictures/snap

Then you have to configure "./pictures" as the snapshot folder and then MAMEUI will search for the snap set in this folder.

Remember that a set can have two forms : either zipped (snap.zip) or unzipped in a directory (snap/*.*).

The name for the set is hardcoded so it will always be "snap".
The name for the folder is up to you.

If you can't live with having two folders, then you can configure MAMEUI folders to "." (it seems to be your configuration for other art files) and then put your pictures in "./snap/*.*" or "./snap.zip".

But it makes managing the sets with CMP very hard.

Ok. I can add support for this snap sub-folder in my frontend then.

>> The name for the set is hardcoded so it will always be "snap".

Can you please tell me where is the source code this is declared ? Thanks.

Also, software list folders. Does this mean that unzipped softlist images will also be in snap_userdir\snap\softlistname\gamename.png ?
or they will be in snap_userdir\softlistname\gamename.png

Should my frontend also search for softlist images in snap_userdir\snap\softlistname\gamename.png or just snap_userdir\softlistname\gamename.png ?
What about the other image categories (cabinets, flyers, titles, etc) ? Do they have this sub-folder too ?
cabs_userdir\cabinets
flyers_userdir\flyers
...
...

-----------------------------------
... answer by myself:
yes, I tested cabinets and msx1_cart softlist and all these paths are valid:

cabinet_userdir\88games.png
cabinet_userdir\cabinets\88games.png

snap_userdir\msx1_cart\goonies.png
snap_userdir\snap\msx1_cart\goonies.png
-----------------------------------

Thank you for the help. I will make changes to my frontend, but to do that I need to know the fixed sub-folder names for each image category.

Thanks. They seem to be the same as MAME default folders found in ui.ini
I'll use that as reference.
