You're getting a moire effect. It shouldn't happen on, at least, horizontal games (though I no longer get it on vertical games in horizontal orientation, either), so I don't know why you are. I recall seeing moire or something in the ini, and turning it all the way down. It's not in the ui list, though....

You need to turn off curvature if you want to avoid those artifacts completely. You can use "Distorted Corner Amount" and "Rounded Corner Amount" without causing artifacts, but not "Screen Distortion" or "Cubic Distortion".
If you want to keep the distortion, you might be able to lower the "Scanline Amount" to reduce the visibility of the rings.

In his case it's more the slot mask than the scanlines.

Yesterday I experienced with Slider Controls and had no luck. Today it was "Quadratic Distortion Amount" only. The game 1942 shows better effect before/after.
Appreciate all answers and B2K24's modified 'hlsl.json'

You might be right. Probably you are. But he still won't fix it without losing the curvature.
Or turning down the slot mask effect. Or scanlines. Whichever is the problem.

Yes, changing Quadratic Distortion to 0 will remove the "circles" entirely as it looks like you're already discovered.
