#354679 - 05/25/16 10:13 PM

PINE A64 is the world's first 64-bit expandable Quad Core 1.2Ghz supercomputer, tablet, media center, and more... starting at just $15.

ODROID-C2. 2.0 GHz 64-bit multi-core, 2 GB RAM, and they released Linux with accelerated GL this week.

And at least 3 MAMEdevs own one now.

A Kickstarter campaign making claims that in any other venue would border on fraudulent marketing? I'm shocked, shocked I tell you!

Looks nice except for the A-53's.

Show me one with quad A-57 or A-72 and I may bite. Would be interesting to see how MAME runs on a high-performing ARM core.

No, I'm pretty sure Mr Cray would love all the progress and miniaturisation.

While on the subject of Cray, I very nearly purchased the old Cray super computer from Sydney University about ~3-4 years ago. It was being auctioned on eBay and was given away for peanuts .... But, it was going to be one long road trip to collect it .... several 1,000 Km of country roads. The machine had hardware issues (a failed disk pack, etc), and I was worried about the road trip's effect on it and getting the machine back up and running where I live after being shaken and rattled for such a distance (and many 100's of Km from the nearest city).

Still, would have loved to have a Cray in my house .... Then again, I have never met a piece of old computer junk I didn't like .... I gave away several garden sheds full of old computers (old PCs XTs / ATs, Ingigo workstations, etc, etc) a few years ago. So I should know when enough is enough ....

Personal issues (cough, cough, cancer) knocked a lot of dreams on the head ...

Cos I guess I"m a rube in this case. I didn't go for it, because I don't have a pressing use for it, but I was thinking about it....

He wouldn't like that this piece of shit is called a 'supercomputer'. Real supercomputers are far different from general purpose computers.
