Besides 'mame -cc' creating a mame.ini file if one is not present, it also adds/restores lines (options) missing for the respective version being utilized, from a mame.ini file that is already present.
Obsolete options/lines remain though.
Is there a different switch that already handles deletion of what is not utilized under mame.ini, or is it perhaps something that can be explored for incorporation into future versions of MAME?

It's been discussed recently, yeah. Sometimes a bit hard to do. As you saw for this release we simply recommended generating new INIs.

Very cool. Understandably, it is easier said than done. No biggie if it is too much of a task (Or interest and resources are being utilized elsewhere).
Nonetheless, the thought crossed my mind previously, and especially with this latest release, the thought popped up again.
