Latest MAME release taking longer than normal to load

With the latest MAME 0.172 release, MAME is taking longer than normal to load.
But when I put MAME.exe in New Folder all by itself, it loads at normal speed.
So I'm thinking it may be all the "Extras" such as Icons that is making MAME take longer to load? But this has never happened before. I remember M+GUI had a similar problem with load time because of the Icons.
I also noticed that the file size of mame.exe has decreased significantly compared to the previous release.

afaik, this is not cause by MAME. It's a Windows problem.
All applications do this, they take a lot longer to load the first time.
There's nothing to be done to remedy it.

Ahhh-dunnoo.....my Excalibur machine has XP on it, and at least .157 takes a good twelve seconds to load the first game played. Every time, no matter how long the machine has been on.
