Can you identify what this mechanism might be? (sword/knife related)
#350923 - 03/02/16 08:40 AM Attachment: lock thing.png 215 KB (2 downloads)

The attached pic has an arrow pointing to what I'm referring to. My guess is that it's some kind of lock release... You'd slide the part along the groove, and that'd move something else so the sword could be removed from a sheath or scabbard.

That is just my assumption. I don't know if anyone here is into.... cutlery. But if you are, and would have an idea what that thing does then I'd appreciate the help/info.

I've looked online, but can't find anything similar.

Note: That part that has the 2 torx screws in it that almost resembles a high-heel.... There are 2 of those, one on each side, and they're 15mm apart (and each is 3mm thick). Why mention this? That makes for a gap between them and the carbon fiber sheet that is covering the handle part of the sword.

If that thumb lock (that's what I'm going to call it for now) moves anything... I'd figure it might be these things, or perhaps that 'L' shaped thing just to the left of it.

And, if it wasn't obvious, this is a pic of a rendering of a 3D model.

If you want a guess, I'd say it's more of an easy way (along with the screws... perhaps that thing is a safety, in case the screws shear?) to separate the blade from the hilt.

Just broke my personal record for number of consecutive days without dying!

If you know of, or could post an example of this - that might help me to understand. But I don't think this is the case....

It's actually a full tang sword.

I may have to work something out to where, when that button is slid, that it brings in 2 tabs that would go into narrow slits on a sheath (behind those 2 high-heeled shaped parts). This would unlock, and make it so the sword can be removed.

That's the only thing I can think of that would make sense.

I know they don't go into that much detail, but fwiw, there's this....

The one thing I notice about it is that the sword completely lacks a guard.

Friend of mine says that it's a safety lock to lock the blade in place. Or, if it's a spring-assist knife, then it's the trigger for the spring mechanism.
