PCB looks like the usual quality we've come to expect from Korea. But what were the 'rules' to sell your goods over there as a Japanese manufacturer? I see a lot of Korean parts on boards from that region like Goldstar, Hyundai and the usual wierd Eprom types (27C4086=27C010 etc.)
I know there was some beef between Japan and Korea back then, but games were made and sold nonetheless. Just curious to know the requirements back in the day

I have no idea. I heard they refused to sell Guwange because it was "too Japanese" and then they made Boonga-Boonga. That's the extent of the interesting. We could ask Dr. Kitty, a seller there that we often buy from, but I don't know.

There was a rule against importing Japanese "cultural products". This primarily meant no Japanese-language audio or text anywhere. All Japanese speech must be removed or dubbed to another language, and all Japanese text must be removed or replaced with another language. In some cases media based on Japanese history, folk tales, legends, religion or spirituality was also banned.
