Bravo ShouTime for the pcb find and purchase and also to Luca for the emulation work.
-- The unpopulated spot on the left is where the Toybox chip would sit in the production board. That is a custom MCU that Kaneko would add for protection of its games on this hardware, starting from 1994 onwards. Luckily they did not have time to finalize this aspect of the production, which means we have no additional hurdles to overcome to enjoy this title. --
After reading this part, I agree that it was forunate the pcb didn't have any protection mcu device.
>The soundtrack is pretty amazing
My era of arcade shootemups was Xevious or Galaga, not Raiden II etc. but I am glad Wing Force was saved because I agree with what Luca mentions is the soundtrack music is amazing. Instead of playing the game, I would rather listen to all the music instead. The music arrangments made this save by ShouTime all the better. Glad Wing Force was another successful rescue event.

From an emulation standpoint, would this game not having an MCU help with other Kaneko games from that era that DO have MCUs?

Very cool! Looks like a blatant rip-off of Raiden, though, complete with a freeway flyovers

>Thanks, Luca! You're a star. It's been 16 years since you first emulated BlazeOn - amazing how time flies.
If you remember that fact without having to do any searches, I am impressed.
Now posted on emuchat forum.

I wish! It came out of mameinfo, though I do have some vague recollection from our halcyon days. ;-) > I got something noteworthy on its way and will post it on emuchat forum within this > week. Unfortunately it isn't any film reels, but is part of the cab used in attract > mode sequence. Too bad Orc nor Sez are around these days because they might remember > it. I know Orc (Orclord) would remember it.
Can't wait!

It's a good thing you pointed that out, I'm sure Luca had no idea. I'm going to suggest that we add you to the MAMEdev mailing list, we could really benefit from someone as observant as you.

so what, I ask you, should dipswitches that do absolutely nothing on the PCB do in MAME?
