MAME doesn't recognizes some buttons on arcade stick

Hi everyone
I hope someone can help me  . I built an own arcade cabinet. Now I have the problem that some of the buttons on my 2 player arcade stick aren't recognized by mame. windows does recognize all buttons just fine as two seperate gamepads. also all the buttons are working in the emulationstation.
I tried to hit tab to go to game menu and configure those buttons. But pressing those buttons has no effect. Some other buttons are working fine by mapping them the same way. It's also weird, that the gamepad is recognized as a keyboard, because I tried the same setup before building the cabinet and the buttons where something like "Joy 1 Button A" in the past.
Does someone know a similiar problem?

Could be ctlr inis. Delete em an try again.
But if that ain't it, what kind of controller are you using?...........
