Compiling MAME to save hi scores
#344190 - 08/19/15 08:57 AM

I was wondering if there are any good sites I can go to that shows how to compile MAME to use the hiscore.dat file to save high scores? I did a basic google search and didn't really find anything useful. But I have to admit, I didn't really try all that hard. Thought it'd be easier just to ask

Just take snaps when you get hi scores. The advantages are that you can share them with friends or on social media.

I was going to reply, then decided not to since, surely, someone else would have a better idea about this....

Anyway, I was going to say that I thought there were builds that still support the hiscore.dat... Or that it's possible to setup (compile?) MAME to use save-states upon exiting, then to reload the next time MAME is started up (with whichever game, etc.).

Or, he could do like I did back when I played games on my Genesis. I simply wrote down my highest scores. One particular game was 'Super Hang-On'. Sometimes I'd get an even higher score. If I didn't have room for it above, I'd just draw stars by it.

The super easy way to compile Mame (with high score diff) is to use the Mame Compiler.

It'll download all the source and compile it all for you, it's about as easy as it gets.

But you have to turn off save states. As long as you don't F3 the game, you're fine. (Williams games save into nvram, so not an issue with them.) I used to care about it, but have blown it off; leaving save state on is more convenient.
