Shadow Force running extremely slow

Shadow Force used to run full speed easily. Now it's a shell of it's former self. It now runs at less than 50%. What's up with that?

That driver hasn't changed in forever except to add save support recently. Do you know which version it got slower in?

the only time I remember it getting slower is when raster effects were added, although i wouldn't expect that level of slowdown.

might be tag lookups if it's calling the input read function in the same interrupt as the rasters.

It got slower between 0.160 and 0.161.

yeah, looks like tag lookups got even slower at that point.

it's back to how it was before now (actually a bit faster) but if it was running at 50% for anybody it's probably time they look at a hardware upgrade, that was 300% here still and other drivers are starting to become more demanding than that (for example the IREM stuff previously mentioned)

0.161 was when we switched from Aaron's custom string class to std::string; that's probably why runtime tag lookups got slower.

Thanks for fixing it... I grabbed the latest build from EmuCR and it's back to running at 100%... and back to being capable of running at over 400%.

Those slowdowns had the game running for me in the low 60%. So the new fixes has increased the speed ability by about 7x faster.
