Die Hard Arcade
#342477 - 07/14/15 11:53 PM

Hello, I'm new so hopefully this is the right section.

I am an avid gamer but I can no longer have a clean conscience about pirating games. I think the rules/laws are ridiculous but it is what it is. I'm longing to play Die Hard Arcade. I have it for Saturn but it no longer works. Sega never ported it to any other platform and the arcade machines are hard to come by and I'm not trying to spend that money anyways. Is there any way I can obtain a legal ROM of this? Either the Saturn one or the arcade. I'd preferably want to play it on my PC. I heard I can if I make it myself but it's such a gray area. If so, I'd probably get the PCB board and do it that way but I don't much about it yet. It's just ashame that all these great games are locked away from us (legally) until the devs or whoever decide it's worth their time and money. Please help, thanks.

Thanks for your reply. However, I really want the original and to obtain a digital copy legally.

Just download the ROMs and play it. There are many more unethical things going on in the world than playing a game that is no longer sold. For example, do you pay every penny of tax to your state when you buy stuff from the internet? Do you sell stuff on eBay and not pay income tax on the profit?

Yeah, go ahead and get whatever game you'd like to play. If the game companies don't want to provide a "legal" way of obtaining it - that's on them. Their lo$$. It's not like it's impossible for them to do this.

Haha... I buy ports whenev... *T0M gets torched and dies*

The roms on stv carts are surface mount, you would have to research and practice on a dozen trash boards before having any chance in hell at dumping it. And you would need several pieces of equipment aside from a programmer (soldering iron, adapter, flux, etc.). No chance. It would be easier and cheaper to buy the game and run it with a supergun.

If you know of any person who has ever gotten in legal trouble for downloading/obtaining decades old video game ROMs, I'd like to read about it. I don't believe that has ever happened. Not sure though.

The movie license basically makes an official digital re-release impossible as said movie licenses have almost certainly expired (Sega would at least need to strip all licensed content and release it closer to the Japanese Dynamite Deka form, or attempt a long and costly process of obtaining a license and permission one again, probably not worth it)

Because there are too many lawyers. Far, far too many lawyers....

I see...I don't suppose a change.org petition is even worth it eh? Or perhaps challenging the DMCA to bring this recurring issue in the light. I mean there's so many games locked in time that depend on old hardware to play them legally. It's simply not cool.

There is a machine at Barcade in Philadelphia. This is only helpful if you aren't 100+ miles from there, though.

@Master O: no, Capitalism is the issue.....unless you wanna really get to the bottom of things, and then it's human nature.
