Silent Scope Mouse control help

Hello, I have MAME 64-bit edition installed, and I have a very annoying problem: my mouse is only registered halfway in silent scope.
What I mean is that it registers my clicks as gunshots, but does not allow the cursor to be shown or let my mouse control the ADstick (I do not have a lightgun).
I saw a few silent scope MAME videos on youtube that are using the mouse just fine (cursor shows up, used to aim the gun), but they do not show how to pull that off in the video, description, and the poster did not respond to my call for help.
Can anyone help me out? I am at my wit's end here; I have not seen a guide on a mouse that is acting like this (it works fine on all other programs/applications).

Read the MAME doc on controllers. Or get an alternate build like UIFX and read theirs.
