cps-2 driver bug ?
#341765 - 06/23/15 06:29 PM

COIN inputs cannot be tested in test mode in mame, probably due to the coin lockout.

This is pretty much a known fact by now. It is a pop-up when running a debug build letting your know the board is locking out the coins when triggered. You can get around this if needed with -nocoin_lockout command.

His point is that it's weird to have coins locked out during the game's test mode if the test mode allows you to test the coin inputs. It is weird, and should be verified on actual hardware.

On a real machine, the coin lockout mechanism only prevents falling coins from triggering the switches; it doesn't prevent the switches from being pressed by hand.

coin check does not work in test mode (0.162 64 bit windows).

It works if you set coin_lockout to 0 in mame.ini. I would call this working as intended...

It's correct. A real CPS2 locks out coins so that if you inadvertently leave it in test mode people can't lose money putting coins in that they won't get games for.

I would call it something that should at least be logged as BTANB, with a note that in a real arcade machine, the switches can still be triggered manually even if coins are locked out. It's something that's good to know.
