This marks the first time I've downloaded a new MESS before a new MAME. Milestone.

If you play GBA games in some other emulator, give those games a try in 0.161. There's a good chance you'll be pleasantly surprised :-)

I apologize if this has been asked and answered before, just couldn't find any information here or on Google. I think I know what the answer is, but I just wanted to ask to be absolutely certain: There's no actual way to play all of those battery handheld games that were added to MESS, correct? Is there any plan to use this work to make something functional, similar in effect to Madrigal's simulators? In order to do so, would it require some sort of cooperative executable, like the way Visual Pinball works with vpinmame? Thanks in advance for any responses.

Add these artwork files to your artwork folder and those games are playable:
http://dspnet.fr/~galibert/artwork/
Yes, it is completely stupid that you have to do this.

Oh wow! Stupid perhaps, but I actually expected it to be much harder (hence the reference to vpinmame). It may not be the most elegant solution, but it's certainly effective! Thanks RB and VC
Due to the substantial number of changes, I had a lot more trouble adjusting to this version of MAME/MESS than any other, and I'm sure I'm not alone. Between this, and the new "make" subtargets, I feel like 0.161 needs it's own little FAQ to help smooth out the transition. Just my $0.02.
Other than that, outstanding effort as always. Playing these portable games brings back just as many memories as playing their arcade counterparts. You might be putting Madrigal out of business. I've got my fingers crossed for some Game & Watches!

May the various 1970s era Mattel Electronics LED games be in that group eventually. Those were only handheld games I played back then. I am rooting for the members to figure out the hardware so games can be playable/preserved.

I'm a noob here, but I was wondering if the artwork for Entex's Raise The Devil was available? I owned the game as a kid and want to play it again so badly. Also, will Entex's Space Invader 2 also be added to MESS/MAME soon?

>I was wondering if the artwork for Entex's Raise The Devil was available?
Many of the handheld artworks can be found at http://www.mess.org/artwork It is currently the official page for handheld artwork. If someone is/was working on Raise The Devil, it might eventually be added there.
In .173, there has been a recent change of how artwork (for handheld games) is handled in MAME. Some of the artwork is now included within the rom zipped file instead of being treated as an external artwork file.
>will Entex's Space Invader 2 also be added to MESS/MAME soon?
The game should fit within the already existing source file, once the data is extracted/read. I am not sure if a handheld unit of the game has been worked on at this time.
