Kung Fu Master 2 Prototype ROM question
#339630 - 05/05/15 01:23 AM

Have the Kung Fu Master 2 Prototype ROMs been dumped? And if so will they be in MAME 0.162?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Efr9EQkbCSQ&t=1m27s

Found the answer:

#1 the board was acquired from an ex-Irem employee
#2 the pcb was the final game in the test location
#3 the original board is damaged and keeps rebooting
#4 before the board was damaged, they dumped the entire roms
#5 the roms were submitted to mame

That is not the answer. #5 is incorrect.

I didn't even know this existed. This shoots right up to the top of my list of unreleased Arcade games that I'd love to have in MAME, second only to Marble Man.

Has MAME reached out to the owner to see if he'd be willing to let MAME preserve the dumped ROM?

Word of Smittdogg:

"not dumped not submitted"

Shoutime says it's not dumped, and this hasn't been submitted to MAMEDev.

TL;DR that video has incorrect information. This isn't in MAME yet because nobody has submitted neither a driver nor the game files.

Just let it go, man. The MAME Dumping Union is a thing, has lots of members, and knows what it's doing.

Heya guys,

Today I came across a similar video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Efr9EQkbCSQ, so jumped on the forum to see what I could find out.

Read all posts in the thread and also Stiletto's post saying that unfortunately the ROMs haven't been submitted to MAME as yet.

Guess there's no further updates?

Yep. If there were, it'd be in MAME. Sadly, there haven't been and it isn't.

Am I right Jonas Jago has released the roms to mame after 7yrs being lost, I do hope the mame devs work there magic but hey at least it's now preserved. I would still like to see the pcb dumped again to verify the data but he sold it to someone in japan so can we take an educated guess to who owns it now.

I'm confused, usually when a prototype is added to mame, this add information about the roms info, hardware and how was finded, others too

But this not has nothing how verify all roms if are real or not

The PCB in question was sold 22 years ago, people weren't very good at documenting things 22 years ago compared to today.

It sounds like the guy dumped it back then, tried to emulate it, couldn't figure out this blitter / protection thing, and then gave up, until remembering it now and seeing nobody had submitted anything for it in that time. People wanting to emulate something start to finish, or otherwise submitting nothing, wasn't exactly uncommon back then (it still happens to a lesser extent today too unfortunately)

There are almost certainly a lot of people sitting on old dumps of PCBs they've long since sold. Some of these will be bad dumps, some of them will be good, some might already have been lost to rotting CD-ROMs or dead HDDs that haven't been checked in that time too. Many of the original PCBs have found their way back to Japan in that period and now cost a lot more than they did then if anything needs rechecking!

If you look at early dumps from the late 90s and early 2000s we actually ended up with a lot of prototypes dumped that nobody at the time even realised were prototypes. I'm actually quite surprised on my streams when Ozzyguy drops by to tell me certain games I'm playing were never even released. People just kinda assumed back then everything they had was common and that somebody else would get around to it one day if they didn't submit anything. The reality is, often it wasn't common at all.

As there is no mcu dump for it can this still be emulated ? plus can an mcu dump from another Irem m62 game be used at all ?

Thanks
