I am sure this has been asked before..... But, I haven't been able to track down an answer in the forums.
I'm experiencing an issue with MAME.
I have 16:9 monitor, as most people probably do. And with most games this isn't an issue. You merely click on 'keep aspect ratio', and it sets it correctly. I mean, games like Phoenix run in a narrow window that barely takes up a fifth of the horizontal width of the screen..... Just like games such as 1943.....
However, Street Fighter II (and direct derivatives) seem unable to be displayed correctly. I've altered every paramater in the options.... And I do mean EVERY one of them. Yet, regardless, it won't display in 4:3, and retains a 16:9 ratio.......
Is there any way to fix this???

Do you have a separate ini file for the affected games? That would override mame.ini.

I have no idea what that means.
All I know is how to alter the parameters as defined by the emulator. I don't know how to alter anything else beyond that.
Instructions on how to find out what you're asking, and how to change what you're suggesting, would be most useful.

He means there's a INI directory located into your MAME executable folder. If there's anything other than mame.ini, it's probable any other config file is taking over any modification you do to that file.
Open mame.ini in notepad and check your "keepaspect" line is set to "1".

My question is how is he changing parameters if not the hard way? If it's, say, MAMEUIFX, that could be the problem.

I think the original game was widescreen. It had black bars at the top and bottom.

No arcade games at that time ran letterboxed. Street Fighter II is definitely designed to fill a 4:3 CRT monitor.

You are terribly wrong, this has been discussed to death here. ![](//www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif)

Correct. The only arcade version of SF that supported widescreen was SF3 2ND Impact. You could adjust normal or widescreen options in the game settings. No other arcade version, before, or after, supported widescreen formats.

Street Fighter IV supports 16:9 monitors as well.

Good point. I keep forgetting that it was released as an arcade game. Since it was only released on consoles & PC's in the U.S.
