MAMEUIFX source code "Extract it over official MAME source"
#335730 - 01/04/15 12:59 AM

MAMEUIFX source code "Extract it over official MAME source"

This is one of the 3 download options at:

http://mame32fx.altervista.org/download.htm

Could you please explain exactly how to "extract it over offical MAME source"

I am running widows 7 with 64 bit system. I have downloaded the 64 bit option on the page mentioned.

I suppose a question I should ask first is:
Does the 'altervista' in the website listed above in my comment mean that the download will not work for windows 7?

Thanks for help, Im total noob and have not even figured out how to get a single game working yet.

Are you trying to compile MAME? If not, then you don't need source code.

Not trolling, just some really nooby questions. Yes I was asking if the Vista in the altervista might mean that is was for the vista operating system.

Regarding the first part of my question, do you know how I am to "Extract it over official MAME source" as stated at the bottom of this page?

http://mame32fx.altervista.org/download.htm

Im just trying to get my first ever rom to play and having hard time. I am using the 64 bit version of .157 mame emulator from the same page and trying to get the .156 rom of 1943 midway to work. Everything is new to me and painful to figure out. Pleas help?

That instruction is only for the source code. You don't need the source code. The source code is only used for compiling your own exe file, which you aren't doing. So ignore that part.

Just download the link for: 0.157 (64-bit)

Run the exe and extract it to somewhere like C:\mame\

Then put your ROM zip file into the "roms" folder and give it a try.

Hurray! I finally got it working. And it was because of you.
The problem was that I was extracting everything to a usb 30 gig flash drive.

I thought it was a good idea to keep everything all in one place like that and transferable to different computers if I wanted to build a dedicated arcade machine one day etc. But it looks like it really needs to be installed in the C: drive. I wonder if labeling the folder 'mame' may even have been a requirement. Anyway thank you, I was starting to think that it was never going to work!

Hurray! I used to be one of those video game nerds that always had the high scores on games like 1943, tiger heli, twin cobra, slap fight etc and could make it to the end on a quarter then get a free game. Was a fun memory and now, decades later I get to relive these old games.

I plan to build an arcade machine with a motorized rotating screen depending on if your game is portrait or landscape.

Thanks for help and have a great day!

There should be no reason why you can't run MAME portably, other than I/O speeds being limited to the speed of the flash drive and space limitations.
