Meadows Lanes revisited
#333537 - 10/20/14 07:45 PM

Bringing up a correction issue regarding bezel piece and overlay regarding Meadows bowling game of Meadows Lanes. The flyers were correct afterall while the guess from years earlier was not correct, but that's the way it goes when items are hard to find.

The red shade bezel piece was supported years earlier...although still not vectorized yet.

But...there was a brief discussion on the forum regarding confusion of Meadows Lanes bezel piece. A few years earlier, the only bezel that could be confirmed is the bezel with red color shade. And that is what was supported because it was scanned and supported.

No one was certain if the red shade bezel used an overlay piece, but it was supported as such with the layout file in MAME source: src/mame/layout/medlanes.lay

The problem is that the red shade bezel appears to have never had a color overpiece. The red shade bezel was always clear imo.

There is now proof of the blue shade Meadows Lanes bezel that we didn't have earlier because of this listing that shows the blue shade bezel with the green shade plex color.
It is not a separate color acetate flex piece taped to backside of bezel, but an actual green shade portion of the plex cover that is on the bezel as I can tell. (see auction photos)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Meadows-Lanes-Ar...d2#ht_214wt_684

The ideal thing would be to actually purchase bezel and have it scanned properly so it could be worked on, but I have already spent what little I could of getting other needed bezels earlier this year.

Anyways, what needs to be corrected is either temporarily disable the layout file (no need to remove because it is correct, but with wrong bezel piece src/mame/layout/medlanes.lay)

Or much better solution is anyone that can do quick editing and make a blue shade color of the bezel piece so the layout file can be used with blue shade while the red shade bezel is updated to not use a layout file.

The end goal is supporting two different shades of the bezel with blue shade having green overlay (layout file support) and the red shade that was done years earlier be updated to no longer use the green overlay.

Cool two different colors. Green game go with the blue bezel and the other one go with the red bezel.

Two different bezel colors is correct, but red bezel color should not have any color overlay support. I somewhat recall the brief discussion on the forum here about this years earlier, but there wasn't any proof regarding blue shade bezel and now there is finally proof.

If anyone can quickly make up a second bezel with blue shade colors, that would be great so the already existing layout file can be used for blue shade bezel.

An odd case is the layout file for Ramtek Barricade (in MAME source code) shows an example of same bezel piece used with two different shades of plexi color. Meadows Lanes can be considered another odd case with two different color shade bezels with one using an overlay and the second bezel not using any color overlay support.

I don't recall seeing Meadows Lanes at places I went to during 1970s, but do vaguely recall seeing Exidy Robot Bowl at the time.

I recoloured the red bezel to create a blue one. The LAY file includes both (overlay with blue, none with red).

By the way, the eBay listing gregf linked has a nice photo of the control panel if anyone collects such things.

Great job there and thanks for doing that work.

I am pretty certain that the long ago Meadows Lanes thread has vanished off of the artwork forum so at least this thread and work should conclude things regarding Meadows Lanes artwork support.

Looking good. I noticed on the ebay link the green overlay covers the complete screen. See attached amendment.
