Operation Gunbuster - arcade link play

There's a long story that goes along with this machine and how it even got to this point where it's now running and has functioning link play, but that's for later. Two nights ago, we got enough issues ironed out to get it to boot and be stable long enough to play some games. Here is a quick teaser of it running:
Taito System 68020 Hardware [Aug 1992 release]. 4 guns, 2 triggers each. Shaker motor (damage) & Solenoid kicker (shot). 8-way joysticks to maneuver. Considered to be the grandfather of FPS games, first to define "WASD" style movement (and the ability to "circle-strafe"), first to have battle mode (deathmatch). Players stand next to each other, but cannot [easily] see other players' location (no split screen!). The controls are also unique, never duplicated - playing a FPS with a physical gun that kicks! The abilities of the Ensonique ES5505 sound chip are also well showcased in this release, a product originating from Malvern, Pennsylvania. Not sure this is the right forum for this, as it's more about something that's unemulated (link play / custom hardware).

Curious. I was thinking the anime Gunbuster, but no.
I'm not surprised successors got rid of manual movement, and it conceivably explains why HOTD for example were so big with females (of various ages: a few years ago, I saw lots of dating site profiles of under-30 females mentioning love for HOTD; my early-50s girlfriend in '06-ish did as well).
