I'd like to start a thread where people can post MAME artwork they created that maybe isn't up to the normal quality standards but still fills gap in the MAME artwork (especially if it's on the "Most Wanted" list). Maybe the source material is low res, or maybe it doesn't exist at all and you had to fabricate it. The only rule is that it doesn't already exist (that you know of) and thus is "better than nothing".
I'll start with this bezel for Ultratank. It's from a photo in an old eBay listing. It's pretty low res (instructions are unreadable) and I had to correct the perpective to make it "flat" but it's still quite useable.

Here's a Dogpatch backdrop I created using a screengrab from a YouTube video of the game. I had to edit out the video elements and completely fabricate the parts along the bottom and both sides.

LAY file for Dogpatch. If anyone has a decent (or even not so decent) photo of the bezel, please let me know.

Mr.Do should make a low res artworks page. (Joking.) Unless he want to add that page. Yep better than not found in high res.

Buggered if I can work out how to add a screenshot to this post.
Would be grateful if someone could add it for me. I have included one as an attachment.

I fabricated a bezel and control panel for Frogs. The control panel is a separate element and can be turned off via the Video Options menu in MAME if you want to maximize screen area on a horizontal screen.

With some games, the artwork just adds to the experience; with others the game makes no sense without it. Safari is one of those games. The cage is a "safe zone" where you can shoot animals but not be killed by them, and there's a tree in the middle you can't shoot through.
Using the grainy black & white photo on the flyer as a guide, I pieced together a backdrop from top photos of the Taito version of the machine (one shows the left side up to the tree in the center, the shows the right side just past the tree). I had to get a little creative filling in the lower portion but it seems to be just grass anyway. I drew a cage to match the one in the photo which seems to have been a sticker applied to the screen/mirror. The bezel is from Mr. Do's WIP site. I cleaned it up the scratches a bit but it would look nicer if it was vectorized. I have no idea if Gremlin used the same backdrop as Taito but it seems to match the flyer.

This is not what I was expecting to work on this week, but ever since Dullaron posted that flyer of Rugby I've been obsessed. Video Pinball with its 70s disco theme is crazy enough, but an Italian bootleg... with an American football theme... named Rugby?!?! That's so damn crazy I just had to have it my MAME box.
I couldn't find any decent photos but fortunately the flyer had an OK photo. I scaled it against the Video Pinball backdrop until all the LEDs lined up, then a little artistic license to fill in some missing bits. Fortunately the hard work of getting those flashing LEDs working was already done.

Games which use the same ROM (example, Firetruck/Smokey Joe) always show as a single game in MAME. I don't know of any way around that. Maybe one of the MAME frontends supports multiple settings for the same ROM?

Thanks for the reply. I'm running Hyperspin and I don't think it will do this. I'd like to have Rugby show up as its own game on my MAME wheel, but they more I look into it I'm starting to doubt it's possible.

I will assume that the artpath in mame.ini can support multiple paths just like rompath can, so in addition of having "official artwork" It would be great if a collection of unofficial stuff was available that we could keep separate.

This is a bezel I created for Ramtek's Hit Me. As with Frogs, I used the flyer as source material which is quite similar to the bezel artwork.

While I was looking for Lunar Rescue information, I found a much better screenshot of Safari from the cover of a Taito catalog. It seems that I was wrong about the cage being the sticker and in fact the tree is the sticker (and covers up that ugly white rectangle). I cleaned it up and updated the LAY file.

There's a video on YouTube - only 240p but might give you a better idea for color balance / brightness / etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_iEGGFygSvA
We know the uploader, perhaps he can return to get better photos/video.

I think Mr. Do has a Tornado playfield waiting to be photographed, but until that happens this will have to suffice.
I think I've now posted all the stuff I worked on while attachments were broken so new postings will be at a much slower rate.

While the stadium feature is duplicate, one noticeable difference is the stickers that are placed on the grass where the score stats are displayed via monitor and mirrored off the reflective mirror and illuminated on the backdrop baseball stadium piece.
See snap images of Tornado Baseball, Double Play, Extra Innings and notice how the stats (run/hits/error) are slightly different.
Years ago, Mr. Do had posted a good photo side-by-side comparison (Tornado Baseball and Extra Innings) showing the backdrop pieces and how it would appear in MAME whenever work is done on any of baseball backdrop pieces. That old post is long gone by now.

Thanks for you work, but there is something doesn't work. The white rectacle, the trunk, doesn't match with the green part. When I was kid I played this game. I remember there was a stiker on the screen with the green part, for make it similar at the tree. Bye

I've never seen the actual game, so I had to guess at how opaque to make the tree sticker. I've made it a little darker and updated old artwork. Also, the history.dat file seems to indicate that the white rectangle didn't actually appear in the original game but was added by the MAME team to make the game playable without artwork.
