Clean Sweep (RamTek, 74) Font?
#329598 - 08/09/14 06:00 AM

Hello, I've working on a bezel for the Clean Sweep arcade machine. but I cannot find a font to match (nor come close to) the Clean Sweep marquee font. I've tried making my own font but that did not work for me too well. Does anyone have ideas?

Assuming you have seen my earlier post, it is bezel only. Clean Sweep didn't have any marquee piece. I played this a fair number of times during mid 1970s myself. I have a Clean Sweep bezel to go to Mr. Do for scanning. I have not heard from Mr. Do since last sending a message a couple weeks earlier.

Clean Sweep bezel post

If you already have a Clean Sweep bezel scanned and are working with bezel scan, great, but I am guessing you are using photos to work with. If you don't have a scanned Clean Sweep bezel image to work with, it might be easier to work with a scanned bezel image (pending quality of bezel piece that was scanned) than just going from scans of photos.
A bezel scan of Clean Sweep should be available this year....hopefully.

To me, it seems there are text elements on the Clean Sweep bezel in which typing in a font won't work because the way of how fonts on bezel was/were designed and placed (see photos). I am not sure how Ad_Enuff or Vectorzorg would have handled this had a Clean Sweep bezel been scanned many years earlier.

Clean Sweep also uses backlit lamps elements, seen in photos, that illuminate during game play. Although DICE emulates Clean Sweep, DICE is only set to handle some simple overlays whereas MAME is already set to handle more complext artwork elements including backlit lamp features. The problem is Clean Sweep has more ttl components not yet emulated and those have to be done first before Clean Sweep can be emulated in MAME.

The devs for DICE (Adam and Rich) also do have Clean Sweep logic schematics sheets, but I don't know if the lamp part was added (commented out) to source file in DICE. It may have been left off when Clean Sweep was in process of being supported in DICE last year.

Hmm. Interesting.

DICE can emulate overlays? I had no idea.

>DICE can emulate overlays? I had no idea.

Only simple shaped, single color components whether it be color acetate sheets or strips of color tape (ie what Breakout uses). These are hard coded into the source code/driver file for DICE. Within the source code for Clean Sweep, there is code that has the color as a shade of blue/green.

MAME used to do similar thing for many years until MAMEdev Aaron G. had changed artwork support to be treated as external layout files. Reason Aaron chose to have MAME handle artwork support in that manner is because since the artwork is external, (ie: outside of the emulation of components on pcb(s)) it made sense to separate the artwork support from the various driver files.

To better explain my old post...I had thought that the only piece consisted of the bezel piece by itself. I had also assumed that the center part where it is seated over the monitor when bezel is mounted was a shade of blue. It is actually clear/translucent and on backside of the Clean Sweep bezel is a taped, blue shade acetate sheet that fits over the monitor when bezel is mounted onto a Clean Sweep cab.

* excerpt of old post*

Clean Sweep bezel does have a blue acetate overlay piece that is taped to the back inside of the bezel piece. It is not taped to the monitor like other games.

My mistake because I had thought maybe the middle part of the bezel piece was blue. It is clear translucent
