Watching 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time

WTF is this shait? Normally can take a film for the time period it was made in. Kubrick...I just don't get. 1 hour in, like 17 words have been said, and i think I'm going to vomit from the camerawork.

Definitely one of the best examples of "not for everyone". And that's uttered by someone who thinks that Tetsuo Ironman is infinitely superior than Tetsuo II: Body Hammer, that Taxidermia was an interesting experience, that The Short Films Of David Lynch is a somewhat raw but important thing to watch, and that between Tarkovsky's Solyaris and Tarkovsky's Stalker, the former is much better.
The Holy Mountain still remains as one of the worst film experiences I've ever lived.

I caught Stalker in the middle, some time early in high school. I got it, though I wasn't into the low production value element, although there's merit in the 'imagination' part. Solarys I haven't seen; Solaris I have seen, and while it apparently isn't the match of the original, I liked it. It's SF - couched in a love story.
2001 is basic SF. I think the book isn't any different - except it's probably longer.

2001 is one of the best science fiction films of all time IMO (not surprising given the script came from one of the best SF authors of all time in Arthur C Clarke and one of the best film directors of all time in Stanley Kubrick)

Kubrick has 16 directorial credits on IMDB. I haven't seen any of the first eight. What I've seen of the second eight are mostly pseudo-intellectual... well, not quite "crap." Where they were good, they were good despite his efforts to raise them to the level of "art." The one good thing Kubrick did with 2001 was NOT end it with exploding space-bombs, but that would hardly have fit such a slow film.

Agreed not for everyone.
The problem is people need to know what type of movie they’re getting into.
Example: Pearl Harbor- most people thought it would be a war movie about the Pearl Harbor attack, instead it was a chick flick that was set during the Pearl Harbor attack.
People watching 2001 A Space Odyssey will no doubt believe they will be watching a space film.
A film about the future, with green aliens, and rocket ships, and warp speed.
Instead it’s a movie about human evolution. People are waiting for the laser fights and they never come.

I heard Paramount is doing a re-boot soon, with Bay directing!
Should be incredible! With both of them involved I'm sure they can dumb it down & blow up enough shit to make it a blockbuster!
Or maybe Disney & Pixar would be better?

I meant clever for Dullaron. 
eta: "Blasphemy!" was the reaction of Traso when Dullaron said he fell asleep watching 'The Hunt for Red October'. I don't believe Traso was referring to 'Blasphemy' the movie.

Ah right. Yes, very slick response from Dullaron. But then I actually went and watched it. There's nothing particularly new or exceptional about it, but it's an OK take on some of the issues. Up until the conclusion - then it turns to absolute shit.
