Does not crash on a 64-bit build here on my end.

Use this command:

mame gorf -verbose > output.txt

Copy and paste all the text you find in output.txt into this thread.

Only saying that gorf crashes isn't very helpful.

No problems here on 64bit 153.

As a side note, does anyone else find that Metal Slug will crash Mame if it has 'cheats' enabled?

It's only the first game, #2,X,3,4,5 all work fine with cheats.

It took me freakin ages to discover that it was enabled cheats causing the crash..:(

Karnak appears to be using 32-bit mame and he hasn't yet posted what mame verbose tells him about gorf.

No problems here with gorf on 64bit 153, either, by the way.

The problem with Gorf, it appears, is that he is using a Twisty sample pack for the game which includes 0 sized wav files. Such files at this time cause MAME to crash. Since they do absolutely nothing for the enduser, you should be able to fix your crash by opening the gorf.zip (samples) and deleting the few 0 sized files. The bug, however, is acknowledged and being worked on - no need to MT it.

This will hopefully be fixed whenever the next cheat pack is released. It has to do with how the cheats were formatted and MAME attempting to read them in the first place causes a crash.

Those are also invalid files. Obviously MAME shouldn't crash, but whoever created them in the first place needs a good talking to

They were handled and printf's prior.. along with 0 sized roms with offset HASHs. Now, both instances end in crashing. We need proper speech emulation so the samples can go bye bye finally. TOP MEN should be working on them right now!!

This is the second time in two months someone's run into a bug exposed by 0-length fake files created to appease brain-damaged ROM managers...

Download the dat files from here for the clrmamepro. http://www.progettosnaps.net/samples_en.html

Use the official dat from the zip. That will take care of all those 0 wav files. Unofficial < Don't use this one.

I always prefered valid wav files with pcm data lenght =0...so you got a wav header etc...actually I ve fixed Mame to handle that correctly a long time ago....

Sorry guys, my bad. I thought a .dif was submitted directly to Aaron a while back(?) to adjust default volume and remove 11 files and 1 readme. The only reason I can think of for the zero byte files at the time was to allow the older Dith samples to be backwards compatible and minimise complaints about missing files for those with "perfect" sets lol.
It won't happen again.

I've been unfortunately out of the loop and have not updated for a while, has this not yet been resolved? The files to remove are:

hahaher
hail
hitting
impossib
is
live
power
s
time
