Some of the colors need to be corrected. Full steam ahead until it is finished.

I had thought that the Clowns bezel piece had a clear area within the border boundary in which the instruction card is placed, but that doesn't seem to be the case after taking another look at wip bezel image and the flyer.

I guess I will clutter up this thread with Clowns instruction cards scans here as well since they were taped to the Clowns bezel piece usually on right side of the bezel iirc. That's what I vaguely recall when seeing some of Clowns cabs back in the 1970s.

It's funny you say that. After you told me that I looked at some pics and didn't see any instructions. I assumed I was wrong because I never doubt you

Bring on the scans son

It looks like the top where it says "Clowns" is back lit to some extent. I Wonder if they blinked.

Nice work.

These really old ones are my favorites. Circus, Atari Skyraider, Atari Destroyer or Robot Bowl next?

And here they are in a zip file in a .tif format

Font experts needed in order to recreate a quality instruction card of the full set of Clowns instruction cards. Find an existing font that matches. Don't take a font that is close and play around with font to bend it in shape. There should be an existing font set that already matches what has been scanned.

Read detailed post of what the card looks like and how it is supposed to be placed on a Clowns cab.

The instruction card sits on bottom right side of the translucent (ie: clear) area of the bezel. The parts catalog instructs an operator to have card taped on the inside of the bezel. See Clowns parts catalog on page 1 or in the .pdf file page 3 on bottom of the page.

There are three different selections to choose from on each card making a total of 9 different card instructions. There are peforations on each section of each card making it easy to avoid ripping the instruction card when tearing off a section to place on the inside of the Clowns bezel piece.

btw: I am certain the MAME artwork.c source file might have to be updated to reflect instruction card pieces as a separate item from the bezel piece. It wouldn't be ideal to have 9 different Clowns bezels (each card has 3 different instructions) because of each instruction card being different.

It's progressing well there. imo the bezel was the only thing that made Midway's Clowns look decent because it certainly couldn't compete with Exidy's Circus. I recall Clowns and Circus cabs in same arcade center....maybe Time Out iirc and the Circus cab was getting more attention compared to Midway's Clowns.

If I had coulrophobia I'd be really scared of that bezel.

Great work, I don't think I ever saw that thing in the wild. If I had, I think I definitely would remember it!

Thanks for the time & effort... that goes to ALL the art guys out there too...

>Final touch ups to come.

You have to show a side-by-side comparison of scanned image of bezel and your completed work just to show what was involved so folks see the effort it took. I didn't believe Clowns would be done, but you achieved the impossible with the bezel in that bad condition. If it could be vectorized, unless it already has, that would be great for folks needing to make bezel backups for actual Clowns cabs. What has been done for now is great itself.

I know the instruction cards will be a different matter (read post details about the instruction cards). The instruction cards might have to be treated as another separate component of the old artwork.c file and that would require another artwork.c core update by Aaron or someone that could that type of update. Who knows if that will happen.
