ArcadeFlex 0.36.1
#319041 - 12/20/13 09:56 AM

http://www.arcadeflex.com/

The emunewz.net team is proud to present a new version of the Java MAME port emulator called arcadeflex! This new release is the most advanced version as of yet and delivers only complete with sound games available to anyone right from the web browser.
This is the first release for the v0.36 port of the original MAME. There are three games available:
Wonderboy, 1942 and Puckman
in the revamped game selection page.

Just select a game, click "play now" and let the Java applet do the rest. (don't forget to add coins with the '5' key and press '1' to start)
**and don't forget to install Java if you don't have it already on your computer!

Seriously? A 0.36 port? At the end of 2013? That's over a decade old! It's not a good idea to encourage this stuff.

What did you expect from the same guy who maintains MAMEUI?

I thought this sort of thing was banned here because, in the end, the website hosted illegal ROMs and downloaded them to your computer behind the scenes to make the technology work.

Now Robbbert. Not a good idea to post a website that have hidden ROMs.

How is this example of 'online' play any different than the highly touted project at archive.org using MESS as the basis of running archival emulation via its service? Is it only because a MAME/MESS issue here or is there something more I'm missing?

I came to ask this... What is special about .36 that many of these ports seem to get derived from? Was the CPU usage really that much better? It seems rather odd to ignore nearly 14 years of progress. That bad boy was released in March of 2000. Also the newer version has been ported to what at least 4-5 different CPU/OS architectures at this point? Why would you ignore that?

Exactly. I don't really approve of that either, unless they've verified that their software collection is not copyrighted, freeware, public domain, released for public use, or otherwise free of copyright.

I do, generally, approve of JSMESS.

I don't approve of the wholesale uploading of TOSEC and the like to archive.org.

But I don't make the rules here, or there.

Hey Spanky, he doesn't maintain MAMEUI. Robbbert maintains MESSUI. What the fuck does that have to do with posting a link to a webpage running MAME using JAVA?

Robbert also contributes a lot of code to MESS / MAME that is not UI related.
