1.7.2 has new biomes, plants etc.

"Less ocean, more awesome"

Bummer… I was thinking a pure ocean world would be a nice challenge to start with. We're that kinda tough.

So, Ok, the update that "changed the world"

Sooo… ironically enough… the new 1.7.2 world is, except for two small islands… all ocean.

Keep? Try again?

There are trees, but a big chunk of the treed island is under spawn protection.

In any case, I started farming.

Not sure what you're looking at at?

Gravel ceiling… gravel usually falls if not supported, but rarely when the world is made some will "forget" to fall… until a player interacts with it.

Oh, and the blue dots… those are drips… meaning water is immediately above the gravel… which is unfallen. Another piece of information… I'm currently tunneling under an ocean… so yeah… likely a drowning deadly mess if I were to so much as look at that gravel.

Can you believe this? new [Re: TriggerFin]
#316830 - 11/03/13 07:15 PM

So I found a village... the only one I'm aware of having been found on our new world so far.

It was a small two building village with only three inhabitants on a small island over 1000 blocks away from my greenhouse... which itself is thousands of blocks from spawn.

I decided to bring two lucky villagers over to my greenhouse complex, and hatched an elaborate plan.

I spent an amazing amount of time tunneling under the ocean to get to their island, battling lava flows, ocean breaks, crevice creepers, and a spider infested mine to finally arrive up inside the tavern of the village.

YAY!

After making new doors to grow the village from three to five members, I began trying to kidnap two lucky villagers to bring thru the tunnel to my greenhouse, but then I discovered the villagers under no uncertain circumstances could be pushed outside the limits of their village, even with extreme water flows. I decided to temporarily destroy the village doors, releasing them from their boundaries, and wallah! The two villagers moved very nicely along the tunnel.

One villager died of unknown causes for no apparent reason right before my eyes, but I suspect syphilis, leaving me only one villager half way thru the tunnel... no problem... there are three more back at the village.

Blackburn at some point joined the server.... I have no idea exactly when... but he announced he found a village. I cautioned him to be careful, if it's the one I'm working with, it has no doors... the villagers are safely locked in the tavern, but won't be able to multiply. At some point he says he fixed the door situation. Ok, great.

After a very slow and tedious process of bullying my villager thru the tunnel, I finally get him the entire journey up into my greenhouse. Whew. One down, one to go.

By the time I get back to the village, I discover blackburn had created a "door" by cutting a hole in the tavern wall, and no villagers were to be found... the sun had just come up... so I can only imagine the zombies had their way with them in the night, and then they all perished in the morning sun.

Jaw dropped.

My one captive villager is all that remains of the known world's villager population.

I can't get too mad at blackburn... he's just a little kid, but WTF!

And what are the odds, in this giant world, thousands of blocks from spawn... he motorboats randomly over to my exact location to decimate the only known world's village population in one fell chop.

Seriously... what are the odds?

Sigh... new mission requiements... bulding a portal to the Nether... finding a Nether Fortress... finding netherwart... finding a Blaz and killing him for his Blaze powder, making a potion stand, making a potion, making a golden apple, and hoping by chance to find a zombie villager wandering the dark forest I can capture and cure with the new potion and golden apple... DAMN IT!

Portal built at spawn already. Follow path to hub in Nether ceiling. Openings along ladder into Nether proper, no exploration yet.

I'm sure you can (never played it myself) but what about posting signs?

"Keep off my lawn you pesky kids!" or

"I hereby claim this land in the name Gatinho!" or whatever...

Oh well, I guess you can't foresee everything.

Funny how UD is the only site to make any kind of reference to that meaning.

Also, since a religious figure has been invoked - doesn't that mean this topic should be moved to the war room?

This has nothing to do with changing slang. The urban dictionary entry doesn't even apply here because it doesn't mean the same thing. It's just coincidence.

Voilà, which is a contraction of vois là (literally means "see there"), is often used in English at the end of a sentence where it translates roughly as "there you have it".

It's very common for English speakers who have only ever heard voilà spoken to write it phonetically as walla or wallah.

The fourth item or so on UD mentions that: http://wallah.urbanup.com/5824197
Yeah, I'm aware of that and it annoys me too.

The generation thing was a reaction to:

I'm pretty sure I've heard Lebanese and Indonesian kids saying "wallah" as in "swear to God" since the turn of the millennium. I don't know whether it's spread to the American youth or not.

Take a walk in Copenhagen and you can hear this all day. It never occurred to me that Americans writing wallah think they are saying voila.

The terrorists have won, you are already using their language without even knowing it!

Maybe it is a thing, I *am* old and out of touch. I was just taking issue with the idea of citing UD as a source, since it's a site where literally anyone can submit any old bullshit. I'd expect even cutting edge slang to show a few hits in a search. Every other hit for "wallah" is either the phonetic misspelling of voila, or the Indian suffix for "one who is engaged in a business or activity".

Bummer, man... Kids do the darndest things.

No villagers on my island. Once I'm better established, I'll probably go exploring and see what I can find. I'm digging this ocean biome, island hopping is kind of fun.

Probably help if you searched for Arabic slang on Arabic language sites, possibly using Arabic script for your search terms.

All of the Arabic "wallah" uses are at the beginning of a sentence.

Wallah, I saw a UFO.
I swear to God, I saw a UFO.

Voilà is most commonly used in English as an exclamation, often near the end of the sentence...

I just hot-glued some gears on an old hat and voilà! steampunk.

It IS Fascinating, like the deals you can get at Wal Mart right now on sale. I too like the people who enjoy a tasty burger and fries at McDonald's. Ha ha. Those humans sure know how to parse texts. My favorite texts can always be found on the shelves at Barnes and Noble.

I knowingly used the word "wallah" for "voilà" here as a fun little dig having remembered this exact wallah/voilà flame war here a few years back... which has paid dividends in spades, but honestly I could care less.
