In my first apartment in Boston, the bedroom windows faced an alley. The building on the other side had security lights that were angled up so they were shining directly into my bedroom. For two years, we slept in a room bathed in a sickly sodium-vapor orange, which I swear was the start of my sleep issues that persist to this day. I used to have incredibly detailed fantasies of shooting those lights out with everything from a slingshot to a .22 to an RPG. I remember one night, the building had electrical issues or something, and the lights didn't come on. It was so gloriously dark in the bedroom, I nearly cried.

ewww... reminds me of sea duty on a carrier "Stand by in hangar bay one, while switching to SOX lights..."
Hate working with those things on... I imagine electricians hate it even more (takes color blind to a whole new level)

Had I been the neighbor with the floodlight, and received the handwritten note with the map, dog, et all, I'd of laughed my ass off and gone across the street to shake his hand. Then I'd have moved the floodlight, perhaps even asking him if he wanted to lend a hand. A neighbor with a good sense of humor is rare. This devious bastard, could be a great friend and nemesis at the same time. It sounds like fun.

Don't have those problems out here in the boondocks.
But I remember living in an apartment. I purposely live on the top floor, because I hate listening to people pee in their toilet above. The neighbor below me stops me one day...
"Everything you do, I can hear. Do you mind setting your shoes on the floor instead of dropping them, and closing your cabinets instead of letting them close."
Yes, I do. what you are describing is tip-toing around all day, not gonna do it.
But maybe I shouldn't have run the carpet shampooer at 12:30 AM. I'll give him that one.
"Do you think it's too loud" "What" "Do you think the shampooer is too loud" "I can't hear you over the machine."
BAM BAM BAM BAM
(muffled) Turn that god damn thing off!
BAM BAM BAM
Wow, that thing took a long time to power down... like a helicopter gyro or something inside it.
BAM BAM BAM
"TURN IT OFF"
"It is off... just takes time to quit I guess, sorry"
BAM BAM BAM

Ugh, I am so done sharing a building with other people. If I ever get out of this condo, I am definitely getting a single family and putting up razor wire around the yard. My neighbors are the worst kind of all. If you ask them to stop whatever obnoxious thing they're doing, they're very polite, cooperative, and apologetic. Then a week or two later, they start doing some new obnoxious thing to drive me nuts. I hate to be the guy who's rapping on the door every time someone cuts a fart, so mostly I just end up stewing in my own juices.
