'Blue' missing in Asteroids Deluxe

For some reason Asteroids Deluxe is missing the blue tint. Background images work fine, but rocks and ships are white, no longer blue. Color Overlay is listed as an option in the video settings menu but has no affect. Any ideas??
UPDATE: Battle Zone is similarly missing the green overlay.

2 stupid questions re HLSL

Please forgive what is probably a stupid question...but how do I turn HLSL on? I use MAME32 and see it as an option, but it is grayed out.
Related, can someone also tell me what HLSL is? I have been a long time MAME user and do not recall this option.
Thanks....

HLSL adds older CRT monitor affects to LCD/LED monitors. It looks pretty good on CRT monitors too! Not sure what the letters stand for.
As far as enabling it. Go in your INI folder in your Mame directory. There is a file called Mame.ini or possibly Mame32.ini. Not sure which as I do not use the 32-bit UI version. Regardless, One of the two files will be there. Scroll 2/3 of the way down the file. Look for the following....
# # DIRECT3D POST-PROCESSING OPTIONS # hlsl_enable 0 hlslpath hlsl
---------------
Change hlsl_enable to 1 instead of 0. It is binary... 1 = on, 0 = off. Enjoy!

HLSL adds some effects to the game by allowing you to insert scanlines, phosphor effects, defocusing, color bleeding and some other effects to simulate the old tube monitors behavior.
As for the letters, I don't know what they mean too. LOL.

It's a known bug with the current HLSL implementation. It will be fixed sometime soon. There are always -video ddraw and -video gdi to fallback on which are not affected.
