Force Namco12 driver to run in Playstation hi-res mode?
#310834 - 06/26/13 03:01 PM

I wonder if this has been asked before, I just had an idea.
I know that Namco12 games (Tekken 3, Tekken Tag, Soul Calibur 1) ran on modified Playstation based hardware at 512x240, and some playstation games such as Bloody Roar 2 run at a high resolution 640x480 mode, it's really amazing how much better looking that mode is.
So technically shouldn't it be possible to compile the namco12.c driver in a way that forces games to always run in high res mode?

I guess slowdowns would be an issue but that could be fixed by messing with the overclock sliders?

Mind you, Namco12 isn't supported by Zinc so using it over MAME is not an option.

No. PS1 renders the framebuffer into a game-selected location in VRAM. Making it artificially larger would stomp the textures.
