Cannot get TMNT clone for 2 player support to work

I have got every romset combination I can think of. Have tried mame straight and with mala front end (sometimes games will load for me in mala that wont in mame.) All romsets remain zipped and in the roms folder but either say they are missing files or just fail to start. I have verified with mamedb that I have the correct romsets. I need the 2 player version to work, not the 4 player. Please advise!

It works fine if you have the right ROMs.
Open a command line window in your mame folder (right-click your mame folder while holding shift, then click "Open command window here") and type
mame -verifyroms tmht2p
(where "mame" is the name of your mame executable, can be MameUI or Mame64 for example).
tmht2p is the UK 2-player version, so if you have one of the other 2 player versions, type the name of that romset.
This will tell you which files you are missing.
Once you have the correct files you will see something like this:
D:\Emulators\mame>mame64 -verifyroms tmht2p romset tmht2p [tmnt] is good 1 romsets found, 1 were OK.
Note that all the 2 player versions are clone sets, as such you need the parent set tmnt present in order for any of them to load. If that doesn't make any sense to you, then go read the FAQ.

I forgot to mention that the 4 player original parent rom DOES work. I just cant get the 2 player clone to work.

Great. Found the problem and yet it corrupted all mym mame data and overwrote my rom directory when i reinstalled. FML. Turns out there is a bad romset floating around missing one file it needed.
Thanks

Your post raises a lot of questions that I don't want to know the answers to.
I can't imagine what you did, but I know that mame -verifyroms (or mame -anything) couldn't possibly overwrite your ROM directory.
