chd extraction problem...

I have a few chds I need to extract to test out. For some reason I cannot get it to write to the blank hd. I've tried 2 hds formatted and not, active or offline, on a usb/ide cable or direct to mb, master or slave. 3 PCs XP, 7, & 8. Different chd files. Used diskmgmt for the drive# and all that. OS sees them but can't write to them? Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Even went here: http://www.thekillerinstinctproject.com/kiproject/chdman.html Still no go. I'm using chdman v148. Is that one OK? Something simple like this should not take me this long to do. Gotta be something simple...
TIA

Try running command prompt in elevated mode (control and shift from start menu) for one. I had the same issue until I gave it admin rights.

I have not used chdman for some time but I never had any issues using the old simple version.
I would try again with version 0.145.

Bad idea, that version will create incorrect results with some games.

Thanks all!
It seems to have been the admin rights. I ran the cmd prompt as admin and extracted just fine. Didn't work in the cab but, now I need to go back & verify a couple of other dumps and get this one working.
BTW RB: The error said it could not write to (PHYSICALDRIVEX). That's what really irratated me. I knew that Windows could see it and I could format & use it just fine. Should have tipped me off I guess.

Ahh, yeah. Writing to a physical drive is very powerful and can really screw things up, so it definitely requires admin rights
