Well, that depends a great deal on whether or not you want a UI.

MAMEUI is not an emulator, just a front-end.

MAME is the emulator and is not a front-end.

So, if you want a front-end, get both. If you don't, just get MAME.

A little bit of reading could have gotten you this knowledge yourself. I don't say that to be mean, I say it to encourage you to do some reading; there's lots of fascinating stuff you'll be glad you know but never knew you wanted to know.

Wrong. It IS MAME with a GUI. You do not need MAME in addition.

That is a good version for most people. Some people prefer to use the command line version of MAME along with a frontend such as Emuloader, etc.

Remember, if you ever decide to report any bugs, you must use the latest version of the command line version of MAME.

Whatever version you decide to use, make sure you use the 64-bit version for a nice speed gain.

That's not quite true. MAMEUI *is* an emulator. It's MAME with a UI built in.

If you're happy with the MAMEUI interface, there's really no reason to use anything else. The main reason to use command line MAME is flexibility. You can use it with any number of external frontends, which are suited to different setups and tastes.

I can't figure out why people still use UI in this day and age.

Add MAMEWAH and IV-Play to the list as well. new [Re: B2K24]

Those pretty good too.

I only use the MameUI64 to check on the Vector games list. That all. So that I can turn off the HLSL on the Vector games.

Just throw this in your mame ini folder and it will not enable hlsl settings for vector games.

People like to cling to their teddy bear and blankie. New and better confuses and frightens them.

If you need mameinfo and history to pop right up for each game, it looks 1 million times better than the examples you just posted.

QMC2 seems to display them better on separate tabs with all the text being selectable with an option to C&P plus, I'm sure you can zoom it and choose a font which matches ones personal preference as well.

That's not pleasing to the eyes at all to me. No complaints about functionality though.

You can make it look like your MameUI screenshot if you really want too.

Note tab is just an html template so you can make it look completely as you want in fact. And it has individual screenshot, marquees, etc... tabs if you want too (that you can make visible or not if you no longer wants them).

For me it's a bad thing as it make people angry against Mame when something is broken because of MameUI.

And it's still the most used version with an interface of MAME. And every day a new "variant" appears with some cool features added.

Again the metropolitan legend which says that MAMEUI cause bugs which are not present in baseline MAME. Sincerely I still have to find one and it's at least 10 years that I use it.

Download and extract, put ROMS in folder, refresh, job done.

Hmmm, I wonder why lol :P

Other reason, very easy to understand, no searching for what name of bios file, what clone name, etc, etc

Maybe someone could make a "MAMEUI skin" so people could get the familiar blankie they remember without having to run shitty Win98-era code?

The truth of that is so universal that I think it should be taught in schools. Everywhere in life, progress is suppressed because the familiar is so much more comfortable.

Such a shame.

you know, the same holds true also for most frontend... the only additional step is to setup the path to exe and roms, something that can be done in ~30 seconds
