side note, I finished TNG yesterday, then watched Generations again, First Contact and Insurrection. Next up is Nemesis. I'm also midway through S1 of DS9. I enjoyed TNG. Not every episode is awesome, but overall plenty of great eps, and the finale nailed it.
The first season of DS9 is kinda rough, just keep going. There's a huge quality/momentum jump starting with the first ep of season 2, you will notice it right away and by season 3 it's golden and then it's utterly fantastic through the 6th season. Unfortunately it jumps the shark in the 7th season on ep 4. Then you have to finish it out because you've already invested so much but it pretty much twiddles its dick after that and grows corn cobs out its ass. Fair warning, there are occasionally "trial" episodes throughout the show which worked OK in previous ST shows but are pretty painfully bad in DS9. I was never a fan of the alt universe episodes in ST shows either though DS9 pulls them off as well as they've ever been done. When you get to Enterprise, the alt uni they try in that show is particularly shite.
