Sorry I'm doing wrong but it is blurry. The best that I can do.
600 is the max setting. Can't go up any farther.
By the way. Hard to keep the GBA and the glass clean.

Um, that's probably not going to make for a very pretty bezel. I've got a GBA, I'll see if I can take a shot at scanning or photographing it.

Go for it. I hope it turn out better than I got. Hard to do. GBA pretty thick and fat.

I think you need a decent quality scanner to do it, a cheapo all-in-one won't cut it. I just tried with my HP POS and got worse results than you did. I'll get a shot of it with a camera when I get a chance.

Well you tried like I did. I guest only good for coping and scan letters or what ever else flat and thin.

See if these work any better for you. I went ahead and did an original GBA, GBA SP, GB Pocket, and GB Color. I used a dedicated scanner (Epson Perfection 4490 Photo) set to Photo mode.
As for cleaning the scanner glass, I use a glasses cleaning solution and cloth.

Might want to straight up those before scanning. I took a remote controller to straight my GBA up. Great pictures though.
Tip: I just put the remote controller against the wall on the printer and then set the GBA against it. Then removed the remote controller slowly away from the GBA and then scan.

Great idea! I'd tried to just line them up by sight, but could never get it perfect. Here are new scans.

Here are the two GBAs. Call it a WIP, they still need some tweaking.
The scans are nice and sharp, but can you push the resolution any higher? They're not bad, but they don't quite pop like the insane high res Gameboy scan I found. It's a lot harder than I thought to get a good image. I tore my hair out the other day trying to get even a halfway decent scan or photo of my GBA, and I couldn't do it.

Those are much better. Glad that you took the tip that I gave you.

I'm going to try this out. He did a great job scanning those.

Is 600dpi high enough? The scanner actually goes up to 4800dpi optical resolution, which is pretty insane.

Done! I think the extra resolution definitely makes a big difference.
Now all we need is an awful, dark, impossible to see HLSL setting. I fired my GBA up the other day while I was messing around with it, and I can't believe how horrible the screen is. What was Nintendo thinking?

Great project! Haven't looked at these but I guess I'll find a way to scan my Charcoal Grey GBA SP for you all.
Are people going to try to scan all the different color GameBoys?

No light. Just like mine. Yep dumb move that they made. The only way I can see the screen is a flash light shine onto the screen in a dark room. GBA SP is much better than that.

Funny you should mention that because I was thinking of scanning mine so there would be different colors. I know I have a black Gameboy Pocket and a purple Gameboy Color that are in excellent condition IIRC - my son barely ever played them. I think I'll try to pull them out of the closet tomorrow night if I have time.

The Gameboy Pocket should go with the Gameboy artwork? It's the same hardware so there's no separate MESS driver, yes?
What is everyone's opinion on cropped vs. uncropped for the tall systems? My preference is to crop them just below the buttons, to get a little more screen area on a typical monitor. Is it worth including both for each system? I'm thinking the artwork files could start to get unwieldy.

The actual image should be the whole image.
You can crop it in the LAY file without altering the original image (so... you can have both a full and cropped view using the same piece of artwork).

Yeah, hardware-wise it's the same as the original Game Boy. But it did fit in your pocket quite nicely, and used fewer batteries. There were a lot of different colored ones. I think the gold one is relatively rare. I remember it only being sold at Toys 'R Us.

OK, I give up. How do you do this? Specifying a size smaller than the original image, I get a stretch rather than a crop.

Here's Centipede (dang... can't get tabs to format. Anyway...):
<view name="Upright_Artwork"> <bounds x="0" y="0" width="3951" height="3800" /> <screen index="0"> <bounds x="1055" y="790" width="1800" height="2400" /> </screen> <bezel element="bezel"> <bounds x="0" y="0" width="3951" height="4000" /> </bezel> </view>
Note that the bezel has a height of 4000. The second line, right after "view name," specifies the height of the entire view, of 3800, so it ends up cutting off the bottom 200 pixels.
Make sense?

Attached is an updated gba, with ranger_lennier's high res scans of the GBA and the SP, as well as a cropped version of the SP.
