EmuCon v2.4 released (frontend for console emulators)
#303171 - 01/24/13 04:39 PM

Hi all, finally after almost two years I managed to update Emu Loader's "little brother" project.

Many changes, updates and fixes on this release.
For more info, go to http://emuloader.mameworld.info and click in the "What's New" button, EmuCon section.

Very cool looking. I've not tried any frontend to multiple emulators before and I hope this lets me use my own file association that I have with all my emulators. Will it work with Ootake or should I use a different PC Engine CD emulator? And does it matter which version of Bsnes I use?

Sorry, EmuCon does not load games with file association... YET!

You can use any emulator that support loading games thru parameters (command line).
yes, bsnes works with EmuCon just fine.

See "ec-readme.txt" for all tested emulators.

--- update ---
next build will have support to run games using associated applications. I tested here with all SuperNES and PC Engine emulators and they all loaded just fine.
EmuCon reads the application exec command line from the Windows registry...

Very nice, I was just looking for a frontend for console emulators.

Thank you. I'm trying to keep EmuCon simple and easy to setup.

In the next update, I'll add support to run games with associated applications... if you have game files associated with emulators (files association in Windows), you won't even need to select emulator files.
But this only works if games are not zipped.

A few suggestions based on my first 10 minutes:
- %s should automatically include quotes around the path. My ROM paths have spaces, I scratched my head for a few minutes until I realized I needed "%s"
- Related, it would be nice to have a way to either hold the command window open after an emulator exits, report the output from an emulator in a popup dialog, and/or display the exact command line being passed to the emulator. It took some guesswork to figure out exactly what was wrong with my messed up paths.
- Minor bug, maybe? My scroll wheel didn't work the first time the games list was built. After closing and relaunching, it seems to be OK.

EDIT: Another thought... setup presets for the most common emulators (MESS if nothing else) would save some tedious data entry.
