FWIW, the Atari that's failing this time doesn't bear much resemblance to what we think of as Atari. They were basically a mobile game developer wearing whatever tattered remnants of Atari are left. They did an OK package of emulated arcade and 2600 games, and a couple of weak original games loosely based on Atari properties, and that was about it.
Frankly they should just let it die. It seems like that name has been cursed since Warners bought it and threw Bushnell out, and now it's been dragged through the mud about a million times.

Yeah, this Atari is the company formerly known as Infogrames. Real Atari died in 1996 after the Jaguar failed and real Atari Games (the arcade division) was closed by Midway in 2003.

I think Bushnell's overrated. Sure he got it started, but I doubt he could have made it last a great deal longer than Warner did. He didn't manage to do much notable post-Atari anyway.

I totally agree. I think he was a bit too much of a carnival huckster for his own good. I only mention the Warners sale and his leaving because that seems like the point where Atari's fortunes started fading. From what I've read, trouble was brewing before then, which is basically why he sold to Warners in the first place.
