Anyone running the latest Makaron? How well does it run naomi games now? Better than NDC?

There hasn't been a new Makaron in over a year, as far as I know (he's been pursuing that hardware emulator for the GD-ROM drive). DEMUL is still the Naomi emulator of choice to my knowledge - it's fast, it's easy, the dev team are cool guys, and it uses MAME ROMs and CHDs.

I think the last update was T12/5.
It didn't add much over the previous version except more control over resolution and scaling.
That was August of 2010, so if you tried it back then, nothing has changed(at least on on a public release).

I've never used NullDC for NAOMI.

I was planning to use Demul for everything on my new cab, but MVSC2, DOA Millenium, & most of the shmups run a lot better for me on Makaron.

Could just be a lack of horsepower.
(3.4Ghz Athlon X3, 8600GT)

Not sure what you have in mind, but Makaron doesn't offer screen rotation for vertical games.
Once upon a time, I made a cobbled together autohotkey script as a workaround.

The newest version of Demul (v5.7) runs like crap using the legacy Directx9 drivers. If you're limited to Directx9 because you're using XP, you might want to try v5.6 instead.

EDIT: Just realized who was asking the question.

Demul is the way to go for the driving games.
Crazy Taxi, Jambo Safari, Maximum Speed, & Faster than Speed all work. F355 and the Naomi 2 games not so much, but no other emulator will do as well.

I could not tell if it's official.

That's not an official release; it's an unauthorized hack of Makaron which contains a virus.

Thanks for the replies RB and Badmouth. Badmouth thanks for the heads up on Demul regarding those driving games that work. Shame about F355. What about the following other driving games:

Initial D series
King of Route 66
Club Kart
Sega Driving Simulator

....?

Also, does Demul support analog steering wheels, pedals, stick shifter, and most importantly, force feedback? Can the FFB be tuned and tweaked the way it can in Supermodel?

If you have a fast processor, the first initial D is playable, but is full of graphics glitches (look it up on youtube). My driving cab isn't fast enough to have messed with it much.

The rest of the games you mentioned aren't playable.
Naomi 2 games are still pretty rough. I haven't seen where anyone is working on them.

The four games I mentioned are pretty much it.
I seem to remember the precursor to route 66 working, but having some glitch that made it unplayable.

Analog controls all work. The games that work only had Up/Dn or Fwd/Rev return to center shifters. Both standard shifters that stay in place and paddle shifters work with them. In v5.6 and the leaked 5.7 WIP, not all of the controls were mapped to P1 controls. In the official v5.7, that was changed so they are all mapped under P1. I seem to remember the gas/brake needing to be on the same axis (combined pedals) for v5.7. I'm still using v5.6 on my cab because I'm limited to directx9 by Windows XP.

It's been a while since I had time to play my driving cab.
I don't even remember if ffb works. I think I remember it working in Crazy Taxi, but I might be remembering the PC version.

Just download Demul v5.7 and try them already.

I think a new version of Demul will be out in March, that's according to some random browsing on some emu boards around the net. 0.5.8 should be a great update, as the new dx11 gpu should be more complete and should be able to render alot more games correctly.

Here's hoping.
