Tramatic childhood memory resurfaced the other day...
It's a cartoon around the 'robotech' era. All I can remember about the thing was that their was a crew aboard a space ship, and something about a kid riding a horse/unicorn. Then there was a shot of the kid cut in half, and he was a robot or something.

Helps to know the decade which was your "childhood" to assist searching - was it traditional animation, claymation or something else odd? For now, you can feast on this thing so cool.. it should have existed
It's been awhile since I've seen it, but here's a picture of the main character on a horse. And the final fight with bad guy at the end reveals that the bad guy was a robot all along (he gets cut in half).
wow, that movie looks like they drew and painted everything by hand. what a horrible way to make a movie. it's not as smooth and perfect as modern animation. i'm just kidding, i love real animation. starting to forget its merits as an art form.

That sounded very familiar to me as well and when the light bulb went off inside my head, I remembered an episode of Gaiking: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZkZD3RyIyP8
