MAMEHub v2 launched
#299097 - 11/16/12 01:40 AM

Hey all,

MAMEHub v2 has launched, with a bunch of new features:

  • Reduced latency: MAMEHub now uses UDP with redundant information in the packet to remove lag spikes and lower latency
  • Protocol Buffer support: Now people on different operating systems and 32/64 bit differences can play together without any sync issues.
  • OS/X Support: The GUI has been completely rewritten from scratch in java swing and now supports OS/X.
  • WebM recording fixes: Now webm videos can be recorded at full speed by using the remaining cores on your machine.

For people who don't know, MAMEHub is a way to play any MAME or MESS game online with other people around the world. Over 40000 arcade & console games are supported. If you want to see more or get MAMEHub, visit the redesigned website here: http://www.mamehub.info.

I just did a search on MAMEHub videos uploaded in the past 24 hours and here's what came up:

Golden Axe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvcccKFdfPk
Marvel Vs. Capcom: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WT0_WhYuvYY
Puzzle Bobble: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Jci6yaaz6U
Neo Turf Masters: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sn7xriqdt-w

I'm also updating the blog with specific details on how MAMEHub works for nerds. Here's the first post (second one coming later this week):
http://blog.mamehub.info/2012/11/how-mamehub-works-part-1.html
http://blog.mamehub.info/2012/11/how-mamehub-works-part-2.html

If you have any problems, please file a bug: http://bugs.mamehub.info/ or rant on the blog: http://blog.mamehub.info/.

Thanks!

Concept sounds nice, but I haven't been able to find the latest CSMAME/MESS source code.
I think, if I'm not mistaken, that MAMEHub is a combination of 3 projects:
* MAMEHub itself, which is written in python and whose source code comes with the download in a /src/ directory (or so https://sites.google.com/site/mamehub/ claims)
* CSMAME/CSMESS whose projects once lived at https://github.com/MisterTea/ClientServerMAME but hasn't been updated there in years. (Where is the latest git/svn/hg/etc where I can find the latest CSMAME/CSMESS code?)
* RakNet, which can be found at http://www.jenkinssoftware.com/hobbyist.html (since raknet isn't free software, I wonder if there are some potential licensing problems regarding its use here? unless its used purely as a dynamic library by MAMEHub itself, which might be fine...)

This is a great project and hopefully it gets a lot more attention.

That said, I'm personally still (patiently) waiting for the network code in MESS to migrate to MAME for some link games (i.e. two PC/player final lap, virtua racing, san francisco rush etc).

Would still be neat to play through Final Fight with someone on the other side of the world though

I can't even d/l MAMEHub to verify, but DG's always been a good guy so I'll be surprised if he's actually going to violate the license all up in our face. The lack of non-binary download options is disturbing, however.

I watched the Golden Axe video and noticed that the aspect ratio is all messed up. Shouldn't it look like this screenshot I just took and not all squeezed vertically?

Welcome to the wonderful world HLSL

For more information, download the source and have a look at docs/hlsl.txt

Huh? I'm not talking about HLSL - I'm talking about the aspect ratio. Did you see the video?

But on HLSL, I just used the settings you yourself said were the best for the screenshot I took: http://www.gameex.info/forums/topic/10504-mame-hlsl-settings/

They may be the settings I used for the MKII video regarding HLSL on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIm4EBCyHes&hd=1

So about the aspect ratio question....

Something is obviously messed up with their setup as that looks absolutely hideous. As Mr. Belmont has said in the past, on occasion it looks like a case of obesse Chun-Li syndrome.

It should look like the attached pic.

BTW I currently use these settings and are happy with the results.

The recording didn't skew the aspect ratio because the network debug boxes are the right size. you might want to post on the video itself and find out what rom/system it is. It isn't necessarily MAME, it could be a MESS console running GA.
