Hey, it's really cool! And I didn't know your blog. Bookmarked.

Neat! Kind of reminiscent of Daytona USA's musical homages to past AM2 games when you enter special initials.

ha! thanks for posting. i happen to have both arcade games, must go check this out! i knew about 'danger danger' but never the others.

in other news: was fixing an outrun sitdown this weekend and even though it's a US machine, it must have had Nippon roms in it, as the map was laid out differently and some turns & scenery were different.

Is it the Japanese boardset in there? Should be visibly different from the European one...

Mind if I repost these finds at The Cutting Room Floor? (With proper credit and a link back to your site, of course!)

Cool stuff! Also, some interesting work you're doing there with your Outrun code conversion. I recall that Neil Bradley (of Retrocade/EMU fame) was doing something similar with Pac-Man/Ms. Pac-Man years ago, but I don't know how far he got with it. I do remember seeing some code from his project, though.

Glad you liked the blog.

I'm nearly ready to release the OutRun C++ code. Expect to see it by the end of the year.

The entire game engine is ported, check the tech demo I released a few months back:
http://reassembler.blogspot.co.uk/2012/08/outrun-c-engine-tech-demo-2.html

I am currently working on the remainder of the Z80 sound code now. Actually playing the YM music sync'd with the drums is relatively straightforward. But there's an inordinate amount of code relating to the Ferrari engine tone...

dunno yet, looks just the same just covered in dust right now. heck, why would the board look different at all? it's the same exact hardware.

The original OutRun PCB is a larger boardset with a different number of ROMs. (I don't own one myself).

Mark at Retroclinic has managed to combine and program the later boardset (e.g. the typical US/European one) with the Japanese ROMs. So hardware wise, I don't think there are any major differences.

And helped myself I have.

As promised, full credit. Thanks!
