I'm thinking this could go either way. Clearly, Lucas has no idea what made Star Wars popular in the first place, and everyone was too afraid of him to tell him when his ideas sucked. Without him in charge, it's possible that the quality of future films will go up.
Or Disney could just shamelessly cash in and shit all over it, and drive the Star Wars franchise into the ground once and for all.
Same. This ... could be a good thing. I can't see how they could do worse a job than Lucas himself on the prequels, but stranger things have happened. Anyhow, I've barely started reading into this so I dunno how I feel yet, other than shocked. (Shoulda known, what with Star Tours and Star Wars Days at Disney World/Disneyland/etc., that there'd eventually be a land grab.)
"We didn't ascribe any value to the Indiana Jones franchise as part of this acquisition," Iger said later on in the call, suggesting no further installments of that franchise is on the horizon.
Think its just a grab at 3 more SW movies and trash the rest of the company. Think it is a gut and sell move. Will not be surprised to see ILM and LucasArts up for sale soonish. Prob ILM spun off and LucasArts to EA.
Disney wants to own Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and whatever else Lucasfilm owns so that they can market it in their amusement parks and get a bigger cut of the profit. I'm sure that's the main interest. That's why Disney bought Marvel and the Muppets too.
I wonder if the Lucasfilm deal includes Lucasarts games. I could see Disney doing stuff with their game properties like Sam and Max, Maniac Mansion, and Monkey Island.
Well, both of them are known for running a franchise into the ground with sequels, prequels and spinoffs, and both get their core revenue from merchandise. Sounds like they'll find lots of synergies.
> Think it includes everything. From the looks of it the guy who did the deal just > wanted star wars and is now like 'oh yeah got all this other stuff'.
It took 3 movies to get a good one. Episode 3...so someone else is gonna a get another whack at it.
That guy is unfunny and infuriating. I hate him more than I hate any of the three Star Wars prequels. I’m not sure, but I might even hate him more than I hate Star Wars Holiday Special!
