So, if someone can do this, why can't they make a high res 25" 4:3 LCD replacement for arcade cabinets? The largest 4:3 I've ever seen marketed as a drop in replacement for arcade cabinets was 19".
I have a 20.1 4:3 LCD that I'm using right now with my PC, but I'd really like to see a 25" with a much higher dpi.

I'd like to see more choice in 4:3 LCDs for PCs as well. 16:9 and 16:10 suck for pretty much everything except movies unless you rotate them. A 2560x1920 25" 4:3 IPS display would be lovely (and would show off Mr. Do's artwork quite nicely).
ETA: My math was a bit off originally

Per their sales rep:
"Thanks for your enquiry for our EW007, 19” stretched LCD monitor.
We are currently in the process of reissuing part numbers for our stretched displays, and the EW007 is soon to become the MO-190-001-EW-1000.
These displays are made by laser cutting larger panels, in order to gain this unique aspect ratio."
Upon telling them I only wanted a price on one:
"Unfortunately we cannot support the project, they are custom built and cannot be made for a single unit, we have to order in multiples of 10."
So good news and bad news. The good news: krick, it looks like they CAN make ANY size of panel monitor you need. The bad news: I won't be able to get one of these any time soon unless some arcade distributor orders a bunch of them and resells them. Maybe when my inheritance comes in, I can buy ten and keep five or six for my own use and sell the other four.
They DID give me another follow-up email that I've contacted. We'll see what they say. Maybe it's a reseller that already has them in stock.

I've done quotes on these a few times. Completely possible to do, but nowhere near cost effective any time I checked. Just to get the monitor thorough a bulk run and sell it at cost was $400+ per, and you were basically buying a larger screen and having it cut down. It isn't a cheap process to cut existing LCD's, and nobody was producing them direct in a comparable size.
I always suspected the cost would come down if the market for higher res marquees ever picked up.

I can see a fairly large number of people wanting these, just depends how low they can be gotten in bulk.
I still can't figure out why LCDs haven't been produced to replace larger CRTs. It's a pretty huge problem. I'd hate to move to an LCD myself but when CRTs are all dead, that's it.
A niche market for sure but definitely one that needs servicing.

Completely agree, but as of last check it just wasn't sustainable.

Next year, I'm gettin' two more 25" monitors, so I can play that and TX-1 properly.
(Just gotta figure out how to make it fit on my desk )
