Mechanical Games

Well, I have a question about them. Fruit Machines are considered as Mechanicals. So, as I have no interest in them, I decided to hide them from my frontends. Many frontends have a "Hide Mechanicals" button.
Even after a scan, all the Pinball games dissapears, but not all Fruit Machines ones (particulary from Barcrest). There is still a list of maybe 100+ games still appearing. Same problem appears with "Not Classified" type games which obviously are Mechanicals too.
I tried with numerous frontends and they always give me the same amount of Fruit Machines not being counted as Mechanicals.
Does someone have the same issue ? Is this a MAME issue ? I use the original Mame64 from the official site. Thanks.

There are video fruit/slot machines Since most of them don't boot right now it's often hard to tell though.

Mechanical games does not belong in MAME. If I was in charge, I would simply delete (holding SHIFT simultaneously) all of those garbage !

Thanks for the explanation, so this is logical... Unfortunately, that doesn't help me from avoiding them !
Unscanning them is hard with ClrMAMEPRo (many Mechanicals have different set names), I don't know any frontend that hide games from their Catlist/Catver category... I think I'll have to live with "Video Mechanicals" !

You have to filter out gambling games.

Well I'm not a CMP specialist, I found out how to move Mechanicals and MPU4 Video Firmware from "roms" to "machanicals", but there is still the same roms that annoys me... I didn't find how to filter out gambling games !

OK, I checked with CMP in the "Set Information" area, all these "Video Mechanicals" are clasified as Standard roms. So there is no way to unsort them properly. My bad !

If you compile your own version, just remove unwanted games from src/mame/mame.lst. There are even [BEGIN] [END] tags for fruits and pinballs, making ctrl-f(ind) easier.

This is how I have paths set up on cmpro and mame.ini. If I don't want something to show on MAME then I delete the paths out of the mame.ini. Take a while to do this and not fun ether.
I have this in my List.txt file.

I have this in my mame.ini.

try to mask them via manufacturer or driver name
%s=*MPU4*;%s=*.... in select sets (+ invert)...guess they can be filtered out by drivers...semicolon separation allows multiple selections of driver files

Hey Mister/Lady ! I took some time to look into Your posts here on MameWorld and find out that 99% of those scribbles of Yours are simply trolling... No hard feeling, but I see no point in insulting someone on this forum or any other place on internet.

Slightly OT, but be aware that a line in .ini files can't exceed 4095 bytes : I have 3 different "rompath" in my mame.ini file which can't be cumulative because they are too long !

These sets are there because these games need to be preserved, and at some point, someone will work it out further.
Your "opinion" is disrespectful to Mamedev's work. You're simply trolling Mamedev's work. I'm trying to be constructive showing you that.
If this kind of opinion would be taken seriously, maybe we wouldn't have any fighting game, or shooters, or platform game in Mame 'cause someone would advocate that they are all garbage.

Yeah, but he posts dry puns, plays on words, and pop culture references. You just insult developers' intelligence. Go and make your own emulator, with blackjack, and hookers.

If I want. I could just have all the BIOS folders into one instead of split into groups.

Scratch that. 2 folders for now on. mechanical-games and video-games.

So it's OK to insult MAME developers decisions as if they were some kind of morons, but it's bad to insult them directly. Got it.
Anyway. I'm sure if you were in charge, the remaining development team won't let you delete games you don't like so easily. Nice way to be removed from the project in minutes.

Easiest way I have found is to use QMC2, so you don't have to strip rom sets or change things in the source.
Have QMC2 display the Driver status tab and click on that tab, which will sort the list of games by names alphabetically. First it shows good, imperfect, then preliminary stuff is pushed to the bottom which covers most of the stuff the majority of complainers are complaining about
