Cruisin USA - FTP connection at startup? What's going on?

This might be a really stupid question, but I'll ask it anyway.
Upon launching Cruisin USA, I noticed text mentioning some kind of FTP transfer, using a satellite connection? This is what it looks like.
My question is basically - what is this? It's not actually establishing a connection and downloading something, right?

Do you have a satellite dish attached to your PC? If not, it's not making a satellite connection ;-)
(Seriously, it's an inside joke for operators, end users don't normally see the POST of these games when they're on location).

Of course not, it's just something they put there to make it look cool.
It's like asking if the T-800 really used a 6502 CPU.

The T-800 doesn't use a 6502. Only the one seen in the first Terminator movie displays it in the HUD. So it could be a virus.
Bender from futurama however does use a 6502. http://spectrum.ieee.org/semiconductors/processors/the-truth-about-benders-brain

Exactly as I thought then As you probably know, the emulation is really slow for this game. This made it appear like it actually was establishing a connection etc

Not on any kind of half-modern system. IIRC it was pretty close to 100% even back on my crappy old Pentium 4, and of course it's very smooth on my i7

It is smooth, but sound playback is not. really weird.

Press F11, if it doesn't say 100% then it's not smooth.
